greece (day 1) - flying into athens
i left seattle late monday night. i flew turkish airlines for the first time and had a brief layover in istanbul before continuing on to athens. the plane to istanbul was half empty so I got three seats by a window and slept most of the flight in my little bed.
the food on turkish air was honestly great. for dinner, i got the harissa beef stew and for breakfast, pancakes.
before connecting, i made a quick stop at turkish mcdonalds for a double kofta burger and a chocolate shake (international mcd don’t mess fr).
after landing, i took the train into downtown athens and walked along a large public garden near syntagma before reaching my weird little hotel. i booked a contemporary (and cheap) self-access mini hotel because it looked fascinating. i’m just staying there one night before leaving athens in the morning, but for anything longer, i would book something with windows.
i found a pizza place next door that was open till 1, ate a late italian dinner, and then did my best to pass out.
